TPR

TPR (Thermoplastic Rubber) is a thermoplastic elastomer, combining the elasticity of rubber and the processability of thermoplastic. TPR is mainly a styrenic polymer system (SBS or SEBS) modified to be able to be processed by plastic technology such as injection molding, extrusion. TPR is often considered equivalent to TPE-S, but is often used for products that require softness, high elasticity, and low cost.

Applications

Footwear industry: Shoe soles, heels, soft insoles Replace real rubber to reduce costs Consumer goods: Tool handles, toothbrushes, suitcase handles Earplugs, massage rollers, children's toys Overmolding materials: Covering hard plastics (ABS, PP, PC) to create a soft feel Device covers, anti-slip handles Medical & food industry (with medical grade TPR): Bottle stoppers, nipples, non-toxic skin contact products Engineering materials: Used in impact-improving compounds for plastics such as PP, ABS, PA

Properties

Soft, good elasticity Elongation up to 400–600% Recyclable No need to vulcanize like traditional rubber Anti-slip, anti-abrasion Good for hand contact products Easy to process Injection molding, extrusion like conventional plastics Good compatibility with PP, PS, ABS Easy overmolding Oil resistance, heat resistance is worse than TPE-U Vulnerable to heavy industrial applications Limited heat resistance Maximum ~80–100°C
