EPDM

EPDM stands for Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Monomer, a non-polar synthetic rubber composed of ethylene, propylene and a small amount of diene to form branched chains. EPDM has excellent resistance to weather, ozone, temperature and mild solvents. In the plastics industry, EPDM is often in granular or compounded form, used to increase the flexibility, elasticity and impact resistance of base plastics such as PP, PE, ABS, etc. EPDM granules (Pellets) Easy to mix in base plastic Increase impact for plastic Vulcanized EPDM rubber (solid rubber) Needs hot pressing, not recycled Gaskets, rubber tubes EPDM in sheet, roll form Rolled, used directly Waterproof membrane, cushioning layer

Applications:

Automotive industry: Door gaskets, air ducts, radiator pipes Window cushioning layer, footrest, floor mats Mixed with PP to increase elasticity for interior details Construction industry: Waterproof membrane, roof coating, roofing sheet Waterproof seal, soundproofing material Electrical - electronic industry: Cable sheath, wire insulation Insulating gasket Plastics & compounding industry: As an impact modifier for PP, PE Mixed into engineering plastic composite materials

Properties

High elasticity Elongation up to 300–600% Weather resistance Very good against light, ozone, rain Heat resistance Stable between -40°C and 130°C Mild chemical resistance Good resistance to acids, alkalis, hot water Good electrical insulation Commonly used in electrical equipment Not resistant to oil Not resistant to gasoline, mineral oil Not fire resistant Flammable if no flame retardant additives are added
